Which drums should I buy??

by Ken
(Chilliwack B.C. Canada)

I am 46yrs old and I want to start drumming.
So many brands, so many price ranges,I don't want to buy a cheap beginner kit, I'd rather buy a kit I can be proud of. Would rather spend my money on quality sound and hardware than expensive finishes, does DW make something that fits this bill in the $3000 range or is there another brand I should be looking at?
My drum influences are: Nick Mason, Neil Peart and Mitch Mitchell

ANSWER

Hi, Ken--

DW drums are excellent. The "Pacific" drums line made by DW has some nice complete sets.

The best sets are going to come as "Shell Packs", which means that you have to buy the cymbals and hardware separately. If you are willing to go that route, then I would encourage you to give "Pork Pie" drums a look.

Try Yamaha

I would recommend Yamaha if you want to stay under 3 grand and have great quality. Pearl Vision is also great for the money. But he is right, DW makes best, but you won't touch new for 3. Can find very nice used for less, though.
