Traditional Bongo Rims

Do traditional bongo rims affect the sound of the bongos? Please tell me the difference between traditional bongo rims and the other types of rims.

ANSWER

Traditional rims offer greater stability and ease in tuning.

There are some types of rims that are made for non-tunable bongos. These are usually made of plastic or fiberglass.

Some rims for tunable bongos are curved. This is so that injury to the hand caused by hitting the rims is minimized.

The main thing is to get rims that are seated properly and are made of chrome. Aluminum rims are too soft and bend easily, providing a less stable tone.
