Pick slapping strings issue

Only just picked up my first electric guitar got it tuned up etc , but everytime I strum or play through all the strings the pick sounds like a card slapping a table on each string , watched loads of videos on how to hold it and tried angling differently and doing softer or harder but it's so loud and not sure why
