Icebell finger strike or mallet strike

My question has to do with using an Icebell cymbal (for instance an LP 9" Icebell) and whether it would respond with just a finger strike or perhaps a mallet strike. I am trying to hear it without the strong attack that a stick gives. I know the sound would be soft but would the cymbal respond at all? It's for a composition I'm writing.
