Primary Chords

by Rachel

In my piano book they are teaching the primary chords as I, IV and V7. I am still not really understanding the concept of these chords so I've been researching online but everywhere online says that the primary chords are I, IV and V. So which one is right??

ANSWER

Hi, Rachel--

They are both right. The V chord is also referred to as the V7 chord, which just means that it is a
dominant 7 chord (a major triad with a flatted 7th note added).

If you would like to know more about primary chords and chord progressions, please visit:

Best Wishes,
Lynne
