About This Song

"If I'm in Luck I Might Get Picked Up" is on the self-titled album by Betty Davis, released in 1973 and re-released in 2007. Betty Davis was the second wife of Miles Davis, the well know jazz trumpeter.

At the time of its release, this song was banned by many radio stations as being too suggestive.

About The Drummer

Gregg Errico is best known as the drummer for the funk band, Sly and the Family Stone. Errico has had a very interesting career and has played with a wide variety of bands and artists.

Some of these include Weather Report, David Bowie, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Tower of Power, Journey and the Pointer Sisters. He played at Woodstock and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

About The Tab

If funky drum beats are your thing the you are going to LOVE this drum tab! Errico makes use of a basic 16th note funk groove generously peppered with lots of Snare Drum ghost notes and 32nd not triplets between the Bass and the Snare.

In fact, when you first listen to the song, it may seem that the ghost notes and the Snare are Hi Hat notes. A very careful listening will reveal them to be very light Snare hits.

Later in the song, he makes great use of open Hi Hat notes that give the beat an even more funky feel.

This song will be challenging to play. After all, Errico is one of the great drummers. If you are up to the challenge, this will be great fun to play and educational as well. We can become great drummers by playing what the great drummers play!
