How to Use Guitar Scales

What scales would work well in a certain key? For example, what scales would work in the key of C. Also during solos, could I switch to another scales during a solo?

Hi, Alex--

Normally you use a scale in the same key as the progression or ion the relative minor key.

For example in the Key of C Major:

**C Major scale
**Pentatonic Major Scale
**C Pentatonic minor (If the Progression is I IV )
**A Natural Minor
**A Pentatonic Minor
