How do you play "Knockin On Heaven's Door"?

I'm just learning how to play the guitar and a friend of mine showed me how to play Knockin On Heaven's Door. The song only has 3 chords in it and the strumming is easy 1 2 1234 so why doesn't it sound like it should when I try to play it? Could it be that I'm not switching chords fast enough? Could it be that I'm not strumming correctly? Help!!!

It might also be that you are still not able to change chords fast enough. Just keep practicing the chord changes--it will happen!
