Hitting a Drum..

by Anon
(Ymous)

Which is more important..striking the drum or letting the sound go?

I've watched those tabla players and their fingers seem to be all over the place...

ANSWER

Neither can really be considered more important. Both are an essential part of the sound made by a drum.

The act of "letting the sound" go does require more attention when playing hand drums because the hand does not naturally bounce off the drum as does a stick.
