Changing Bottom Drum Heads
Do i have to change the heads on the bottom of my drums?
ANSWER
While it is not necessary to change the resonator (bottom) heads every time you change the batter heads, bottom heads DO wear out.
The bottom snare head with lose its resonance because it is constantly being vibrated by the snares. The bottom Tom heads do not fatigue as quickly, but they also will eventually lose their resonance.
If you notice that your drums aren't sounding as good as they used to, it may be time to replace the bottom heads.
Some drummers recommend replacing these heads every fifth time you change the top head, but the decision must ultimately be determined by sound.
