Can I use batterhead on resonant side of snare drum?

If you use a batter head on the snare side, how much different would it sound? I am looking for something a little funky or different.

I would not recommend it. The extra thickness of the batter head will not allow the head to vibrate as it should and the snares will not function properly without that vibration.

If you want a different sound, it would be better to try using an extra wide snare set. You can also experiment with the tuning of the heads.
