Sound
Excellent value for a complete cymbal pack. The B8's sound pretty balanced. The hats are a little high-pitched and slightly harsh, but give a pretty wide range of responses from the closed chick to the wide open hits. They are better than I anticipated, and much better than what I was prepared for, based on the low price. The 18" crash projects well, but the 16 inch crash is chintzy-sounding, and not very loud. Neither crash is what I would term full-bodied, but I definitely appreciate the fast decay of the crashes- they don't ring forever. The ride sounds pretty full, and was not nearly as harsh as I anticipated, although I was hoping for a more defined ping- the response decay is slow, so the cumulative ringing is fairly pronounced. The bell is very cheap sounding- not really a surprise overall. The cymbals are much heavier than I anticipated, and look just fine. I bought these for my rehearsal kit, so I was not expecting to buy recording-quality sound. All in all, I am pleasantly surprised by the sound quality of these cymbals, and you can't beat the price. I expect to get a long life from these as well- I am not a super heavy hitter, but I am not a jazz dude, either.
