A Truly Awesome Instrument
by: Anonymous

Hello,
I am the proud owner of an L10A Yamaha Acoustic guitar. My brother and I went to our local music store I believe in 1980 or 1981. I told him let's try out the entire rack of each acoustic to find the best sounding guitar. We did exactly that! We went through about 50 guitars including high-end Martins (which were very tinny). This guitar had the most amazing sound. It was very mellow like an acoustic guitar should be. It was also very boastful (loud) and I believe it drowned out all of the other guitars. The projection of sound was amazing. There was no question that this Yamaha L10A beat all of them in sweet sounding resonation. Mine has been sitting in its case for years! I played it so much that the first two frets need fret repair. The body is in excellent shape. I love the factory wood striping on this guitar (binding?). I'm going to get those frets redone and hand it down to my grand children.

1980 Yamaha L10-A
by: MPL

I bought my L10 in 1981 as the salesman talked me out of the Ovation round back that I went in to purchase. It sat idle for many years as it was very hard to play with regular gauge strings. It now has regular gauge ELECTRIC guitar strings and is very easy to play, even lead runs. I also installed a Martin Thinline under saddle piezo pickup, no onboard electronics, just pickup and jack. I plug into a preamp before running into the PA or guitar amp.I can not say that it has the sweet tone of a high end Taylor or Martin, but it sounds good and has been a great friend for a long time.

Amazing guitar!
by: Anonymous

I have a Yamaha L-10AE (guessing from around 1981) and I have to say I will never sell it or get rid of it. It is by far one of the best guitars I've played, it always stays in tune no matter what. The sound and the loudness of its sound is incredible. I play regularly with a friend who has a Martin D28 and both guitars together blend very very well.

Yamaha L10a acoustic guitar
by: Anonymous

Hi, I just received my Yamaha L10a Acoustic Guitar from ebay. This guitar is mint condition. Whoever owned this guitar treasured it well. This guitar has it's own truth. Yamaha guitar archives will profile this magnificent piece of craftsmanship. It's very NICE!! Priceless.

Thanks

Lovely instrument!
by: Graham

I picked my L10A from a luthier in Toronto in 1978. I really had no idea what I'd just bought for about $350!
I've sat in a lot of guitar stores and worked my way through the high end Taylors, Martins, Guilds and Larivees and I've not heard anything that touches the sound of my L10-A. I play pretty agressively and it's a little banged up, but until you get into the $1500 range there's little out there that can compare. And I couldn't justify the cash. I play with a guy who has a beautiful Taylor cut away. Our sound man has asked it serve as the back up. He prefers the Yamaha...feel very fortunate to own this guitar. I wouldn't trade or sell it for anything.

L10A
by: Charlie

I disagree with Lynne on the year your guitar was made. The single 'L' series were the original Yamaha Handcrafted guitars and they were produced between 1978 and 1984 as verified in the Yamaha web site. I also disagree with the $$ value. Of course the value is in the eye/ear of the beholder but I stand by my beliefs that the Handcrafted Yamaha guitars while not nearly as expensive as Martins, Gibsons etc. are equal to any of them in their craftsmanship, sound and playability. You could NEVER get mine for $400.

L10A Yamaha
by: Charlie

I am the proud owner of a 1981 L10A Handcrafted Yamaha guitar. In 1978 Yamaha openned a new guitar facility just for handcrafted guitar development and production. I have been playing since the early 60's and have played most every guitar out there. I would not trade my Yamaha L10A for any guitar on the market, Vintage or New. 99.9% of the guitar players don't have a clue on how well these Handcrafted guitars are made nor sound quality they deliver. I finally broke down and had a Luther check mine out and adjust the neck and bridge. Even he was astonished of the quality of these guitars. If you have one, you know what I mean. If my house caught fire it would be the 1st thing I would grab after any family members. Don't let the name Yamaha put you off when looking at guitars. Their Handcrafted line can hold up to any Martin, Gibson, Taylor etc. Finally my 1981 knows it's a GUITAR now and not a tree.

Yammy L10A
by: Raider

Rare. I have one. Seen one other at the GeeTar Shop in Gatlinburg. I was told that these were made for the acoustics in a church. Choir guitars. With fresh strings (Martin 12,s) This guitars tone is fantastic. Not bright, Not muddy,
has its own tone, and it always gets comments about its tone. I will never sell mine!

That was undervalued!
by: Anonymous

I have a L10a, it was hand made by Yamaha in 1979, with solid rosewood, possibly Brazillian.

Your L10a is probably worth far more than 4-500.00 dollars.

I would not sell mine for less than 2000.00. It plays and sounds better than any Martin I have ever played.
