Quality Guitar
by: Tinkerer

I have a G-85A that was given to me by my older sister in the mid-80s. At a 1971 vintage, it is only 2 years younger than I am. It plays wonderfully, has resisted much abuse, and has fantastic acoustics. I have seen this model sell for $75 -- what a bargain! If I had two, I would not part with either for less than $500.

yamaha G85A Nippon Gakki/no serial number
by: will quick

The G85A that I have was manufactured with no serial number. However, previuos owner(s)scratched 2 #'s on back of headstock, one being scratched out and replaced with the other.went to yamaha site to verify #'s,which appear to be a 5 digit configuration(no letters).according to yamaha, such guitars were made at the Tenryu/wada factory between 1946-68,and no year of manufacture can be determined. This would indicate that this model is the very fist series produced during the japanese reconstruction period following WW2.There are no yamaha guitars older than these.Mine looks every bit of 50-60 years old.All models after 1968 were produced with serial #'s,according to Yamaha! Will research further to determine how the hell previuos owner(s) was able to arrive at "alleged"serial #'s,considering that he/she(or somebody afterwards)thought that the first # was'nt correct.May be wishfull thinking on my part, but this guitar I have looks like it may be one of the very first ever made.My ? is how were they able to arrive at a # in the first place, and what info led to a supposed correction in the second place? If the #'s cannot be authenticated,I would think this guitar could possibly have been produced as early as 1946 unless can be proven otherwise. Will update as soon as I can determine the truth.80 to 100$? ,695.00$? It would be priceless!
