Yamaha G231

by Rhett North
(Farmersville, Texas, USA)

I pick this guitar up in a pawn shop in OKC. It is in excellent condition but appears to have a few miles on it. Do you have an idea of what it could be worth?

ANSWER

Hi, Rhett--

This model is not listed in the Blue Book. I did find several for sale on the internet for around $150.

These guitars have an incredible sound and are wonderful to play. Distinctly classical sounds and amazing action.you can have mine when you can pullit from my cold dead hands. reminds me of John Denvers sing "this old Guitar"

Classy Classical
by: ggreen05

I got one from my sister a few years back. This guitar has a great bottom end, giving it a sound that is very distinctive from any other classical I've played. If you can get past the chunky-feeling neck and have the action set comfortably, this is a fine instrument for any skill level.

I found this information while researching this guitar. These guitars were only made between 1978 and 1980. They sold then for $150. The back and sides are mahogany. The top is spruce. Neck is nato and the fretboard is rosewood. I purchased mine in 2007, making it at least 27 years old. I also paid $150 for mine, and am very happy with it.In my opinion, if you get it for less, you are fortunate (depending on it's condition)-if you pay up to $300, you are still getting a good instrument.(I'd stop at $325-$350.) Lovely mellow sound. Should do nicely beginner through intermediate.
