Yamaha fg-480s

WHAT IS THE VALUE

ANSWER

The Blue Book Says:

Yamaha FG series

There are a good 50 different models, and each one has a different feature. These guitars never sold for too much money, and because of this arenīt very collectible today. Most of these gutiars were played on because they may have been a guitarists first instrument. Most guitars are worth between $50-$250 depending on the condition and features.

My yammy

I've got one of these little beauties. Had her for 20 years. Sounds great, I take it for granted until someone hears it for the first time and all say what a lovely looking and sounding guitar. Had the frets dressed a couple of times( next will be a re-fret ) Guy in the guitar shop whos a techy says its a really good guitar so i'm keeping mine forever. Does anyone know what you'd pay for one now or what is a comparable guitar. So keep hold of yours cus there aren't many out there.

I have one of theses beautys!

The first reviewer is correct, but they sound a little more mellow or warmer than say a Martin of this era, well balanced not boomy. Definitely the sound got even better over the years, solid spruce top indian rosewood sides tends to promote a little more midrange hence the warmer tone. The dove inlays are remarkable :), not the same inlays the dove from top to bottom is spreading/retracting his wings or "flying". Gold yamaha tuners, nice soundhole trim & binding. I paid around $340 or so brand new in 1989, I never saw one since then, & also on EBay (which tells you how rare or how many people are holding on to these). A solid 9++ right now,no issues with separation or wood cracking, well built. A guitar that sounds this good or plays this well you would pay well over $1000. Seriously a great looking & sounding acoustic from Yamaha.

If you have one with the dove inlays and dove on the head stock, they sold for only two years (87-89) i think. Back then you would expect to pay about $350.00 new. The value has since doubled due to the sound being compared to old Martins and how rare they are.
