yamaha fg200

by randell newberry
(crawford tenn)

I got this fg200 yamaha in the early 70s, and would like to know price. serial # 41017131. It needs fret board and and body refinished. Is it worth it?

ANSWER

Hi, Randall--

The value of this guitar in excellent condition is
$200-250. A new fretboard and refinishing would take the value down to almost nothing, as Blue Book values are based on ORIGINAL condition guitars.

If you like the guitar and want to fix it to play it, then maybe it would be worth it. As far as restoring it to increase its value, I'm afraid that it is a losing proposition.

Yamaha FG-200 made in Tawian
by: John

I bought this guitar for $70 at the flea market in 2009, its in very good shape, it has a tan label that says "made in Taiwan" I noticed the other day it has a pick-up in it, and it plugs in at the strap peg, it has two serial numbers, one on a brace at the sound hole #30619551 and the other inside the sound hole on the block where the neck joins, it says; #0342617 so, what do you think the date is, and its value, thanks

i bought mine new for $300 in 1972 - still plugging away after- fuck it's almost 40 years...a few scratches, otherwise fine. Similar Yammy will cost about $1000 now.
