Yamaha FG -512

by Ray W Roldan
(sunland, ca.)

The serial no. looks like 70615078 but i could be wrong about the "1"!

ANSWER

Hi, Ray--

Yamaha serial numbers are recycled every ten years.
Your guitar was made on June 15th, 1987 or 1997
Production Number: 78

The FG 512 model is not priced specifically in the Blue Book. Here is the general information provided about the FG series:

These guitars never sold for too much money, and because of this arenīt very collectible today. Most of these gutiars were played on because they may have been a guitarists first instrument. Most guitars are worth between $50-$250 depending on the condition and features.

Here is a link to a discussion about the guitar including the prices that some people have paid for it:

Hope this gives you some idea.

Yamaha fg 512
by: palsat

this axe is one of the best 12s around,I am sure that it is solid woods..... spruce and very possibly brazilian rosewood(it just looks like it is deep grain!!) and i am sure Yamaha will have had lots of BR stock way back then.
I have a expensive Takamine 12 also and this Yammy blows it away!!!!

this guitar is #59 on thre production line , it has solid brazilian rosewood backs and sides spruce top, read some where a brocure said it was 1/4 sawed, a term never used in lamination.its solid top and body, brazilian rosewood is on the cites list for endangered wood,, this guitar is way under the radar for the material and value

I'm not exactly sure where you got your info but this git has very nicely figured rose wood sides and back with a spuce top and is one of the best sounding 12 strings I've heard. One of sites said that the guitar went for about $270.00 in 1977 which wasn't a beginer guitar price. I know that it's not a rare or collectable model, but it's a really beautiful and very playable guitar. I'm not sure where you figured the value to be between $50.- $200. But if thats true then they must be one of the best deals going, Most of the sites I read said that they paid those prices several years ago and never let go of the instruments after that. I own about 25 guitars including martins, gibsons, fenders and even a 29 national and if what your saying is true then the yamaha is by far the best guitar for the price! :)

ANSWER

I am sure it IS a very nice guitar! I just relayed to you what the Blue Book of Acoustic Guitars says about its value as a collectors item.
