Yamaha FG 150 red label

How much is it worth?

ANSWER

The FG 150 is not listed specifically in Blue Book. Here is the information that it does provide about the FG series:

"There are a good 50 different models, and each one has a different feature. These guitars never sold for too much money, and because of this are not very collectible today. Most of these guitars were played on because they may have been a guitarists first instrument. Most guitars are worth between $50-$250 depending on the condition and features."

FG-150 late 60's Tan label
by: Bob

Purchase this from a music teacher for 125$ in the late 60's. Has been my only guitar 'till recently.
Got a few new ones for open tuning.
Everyone who got their hands on it were pleased with it's great sound. Will never part from it.

It has aged with a few scratches, but the size is so comfortable, can't be beat.

Yamaha FG 150 Tan Label
by: Little Hank

I bought a Yamaha FG 150 Tan Label in 1972. the SN is 20922078 . It says made in Japan. I got it from the Pac X catalog for $52 with the case.
Still have the tag that was tied around the neck. It is the Yamaha Guitar Gaurantee. At the bottom is NIPPON GAKKI CO.,LTD. JAPAN

red vs, tan label
by: Tomj

I have an FG150 with a tan label. I don't know about the red vs. tan label but mine says it was made in Japan not Taiwan.
I bought this new in 1973. I would not sell so I have not thought about price. I will say it plays and sounds better to me than many selling for a lot more money.

fg 150
by: nonfictreader

I bought this guitar used from the music store where i teach lessons because, although at that time i considered myself primarily an electric player, a buddy urged me to get an acoustic for around the fire. I paid $60 and the guitar sat in its case in my apartment for months. While I was having my tele set up I used the fg 150 for lessons. WOW! It is now my primary guitar. I leave my tele at the rehearsal studio and I play the crap out of this thing every night, including using it for 30 lessons a week. It is powerful, versatile and extremely playable. I'm not sentimental about gear. I'll off anything I own at any second for something a little better, but my yamaha acoustic stays. I wouldn't consider selling or trading it. It is just that much fun to play. Rock, folk, blues, blues with basslines (the basslines, people!) jazz, flamenco, this guitar does it all, with style. IT IS NOT FOR SALE!

Red Label Nippon Gakki Yamaha FG 150 guitars
by: kregger

I bought my first FG150 for $135 in 1967. It has a six digit serial number on the interior heel block, indications are that it was made in 1966, before they were imported to the U.S. there is no "made in Japan" sticker on the back of the headstock, and there never was. I have played professionally for 40 years and this has been my main guitar, and I own 16 other guitars at this time, ranging from Taylors,Gibsons,Fenders,Rickenbackers and Hofner, which are all fine guitars. I recently bought a 1971 FG150 (with a 7 digit serial number),to add to the collection because of the reliability, playability and sound. I have had, on 3 occasions, people offer me Martins as a trade for my original'66. Sorry, if you never played one of these guitars, you don't know what you are talking about...I would never part with the ones I am fortunate enough to have.

My FG150
by: Anonymous

My 72 Yahmaha FG150 nippon gakki red label. Is one of 3 70's yahamhas that I have in my collection. It's been my go to acoustic for about 8 years now. Plays Great... Sounds Great..Feels Great. It's beaten to a pulp because I play it so much but it sounds terrific. I've actually almost strummed a hole next to the pick guard from playing it so hard at soooo many gigs. These things have stood the test of time. I've put mine through the ringer. it's been dropped, knocked over, played and played and played and not always nicely. And I'm telling you that this thing is a trooper, hasn't even lost any intonation. Some people on here are saying 50-150 dollars?! I wouldn't sell mine for 1500. I'll have this guitar till I die. They are great.

Yamaha no. 150 Nippon Gakki
by: Stonefingers

It's hard to beat the tonal quality on this axe, seriously, and the action is superb too.
I bought mine in 1970 for $50 (probably paid too much at the time!).
Plenty of dings and scratches- like when someone's two-year-old got a hold of it way back when and dragged it across the barn floor! They'd be about 40 years old now. Tempus fugit!

red or tan labels both awesome
by: bburd

Just wanted to input my feelings on the apparent difference people are trying to put between the red label(Nippon Gakki) and the tan label/green label Taiwan made, late sixties, early seventies fg yamaha's. I suppose the red labels are more sought after by collector's. However, if you simply appreciate guitars for the craftsmanship and sound and playability and durability aspect of the instrument. As the owner of seven of both labels(4 red labels, 3 tan labels). I can tell you in my opinion there is NO discernible difference in tone quality or craftsmanship or playability. They are all awesome guitars for the money and you can't go wrong with either one of the older fg's if you get a chance to purchase one.

Yamaha FG-300 Nippon Gakki (RED Label)
by: Brian

I have one of these very guitars..bought in 1984. Still plays like a charm, few scuffs, no cracks, no buzz, great action.
If you might be interested in taking this off my hands so I can afford to get a new guitar I am all ears.

FG Red Label Nippon Gakki
by: Anonymous

FG150 Nippon Gakki all the way through FG 300 are becoming extremely collectible and there is a growing following of these instruments with literally thousands of users swearing that their little yamaha's sound better then some Martins, Gibsons Guilds and Taylors....yes it is subjective...but there is no doubt that e genuine Red Label Nippon Gakki is becoming more collectible daily..just check ebay and $700-$800.00 FG 300's (I know..I was a bidder...and lost...)..

Go for it..FG Red Label (Make sure though...it is a Nippon Gakki on the label because there are some red labels that only state the model number and those are made in Taiwan and NOT collectible.)...
