What Price for a 1971 Martin D-28 ?
by Mark
(Maine)
A friend has just loaned me a 1971 D-28 to play to see if I like it and want to buy it. He was the original owner. It is in near mint condition. The serial # is 295283. On another search, this serial number shows it to be a 1972. So, not quite sure of the year. Is it a 71 or a 72? He believes it is a 71. He did have Martin replace a few frets. Only 1 small scratch on the back. He wants me to make an offer. I know this guitar isnt considered desirable as a collecters piece and I read that due to the use of a Rosewood bridge plate instead of Maple, the sound is considered less desirable as well. What would be a good offer if I wanted to purchase this guitar. I have always wanted a Martin and to me,this guitar does have a nice sound to it.
ANSWER
Hi, Mark--
As far as pricing, it is the same for 1971 and 1972. The Blue Book pricing:
1969-1979 Indian Rosewood Excellent $1,850 - 2,250 Average $1,250 - 1,500
