Guild 12 string Model F212XLNT Ser. # 165883

by Marc

The guitar is in beautiful condition and has a hard case as well. I visited the Guild site and see that it was made in 1961 according to the serial number. What is it worth. Thanks for your help.

Marc Chopinsky

ANSWER

Hi, Marc--

The Blue Book indicates that the F212 XL was first manufactured in 1966. Here are the prices:

Excellent $1,200 - 1,450
Average $900 - 1,050

The F212 standard was manufactured as early as 1964.

Here are those prices:

Excellent $1,400 - 1,750
Average $1,050 - 1,250

I could find no information about a F12 model made in 1961, but the prices for these two models are so similar that maybe it will be of some help to you.

Guild BB Bluesbird

I have owned this guitar for quite some time. In my humble opinion it sounds and plays better the les paul standards. I believe the guitar was made between 85-91. It is in perfect condition.

Hi, Jeff--

BEAUTIFUL!!!

This is a bit confusing because the only Bluesbirds listed in the Blue Book have pick guards. Then I found a site with YOUR guitar pictured--indicating that the pick guard was available but not mounted.

Here is the link to the site:

Bluesbird

And here is the Blue Book information for the guitar that I think is yours:

BLUESBIRD STD (NO. 360-6400)
- single round cutaway bound solid mahogany body, internal sound chambers, carved maple top, raised black pickguard, mahogany neck, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl block inlay, tune-o-matic bridge/stop tailpiece, blackface peghead with pearl Chesterfield/logo inlay, 3-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, 2 Seymour Duncan SH-1 humbucker pickups, 2 volume/2 tone controls, 3-position switch, available in Black, Gold Metallic, or Trans. Red finishes, mfg. 1995-2003.

1963 Guild X 500

by Eddy Kimbrough
(Fort Worth Texas)

Hello,
I have a 1963 Guild X 500 serial number 23286, I was told by my Step father that it was originally made for jazz musician Wes Montgomery before he died. It has a birds eye maple neck, 500 year old Spruce back and mahogany front. Also, it is called Sunburst and also was told to say it is an F-hole. This Guitar is still in excellent condition and been well cared for. Due to age my Step-father would like to sale it but needs to know its actual worth. Can someone give me information on who could appraise it for us or tell us any history of this Guitar? The original purchase price in 1964 was $1300.00.

Thanks Eddy

ANSWER

Hi, Eddy--

I have obtained the Blue Book info for the Guild X 500:

"X-500 Add to Collection
- single round cutaway hollow style, bound arched laminated spruce top, 2 bound f-holes, bound tortoise pickguard, maple back/sides/neck, 20-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block/abalone wedge inlay, adjustable ebony bridge, stylized trapeze tailpiece, bound peghead with pearl shield/logo inlay, 3-per-side Imperial tuners, gold hardware, 2 humbucker pickups, 2 volume/2 tone controls, 3-position switch, available in Blonde or Sunburst finishes, mfg. 1953-1995."

As you can see, the details don't quite match your Step Father's guitar (i.e. the kind of wood). This is the pricing info on the 1963 X 500 according to the Blue Book:

1963-1979

Mint $3,500
Exc.+ $3,000
Exc. $2,600
Avg.+ $2,300
Avg. $1,950
General $1,750

Here are the significant historic prices brought by the guitar recently:

2006 1963-1979
$2,800
$2,500
$2,200
$1,900
$1,650
$1,450

As you can see, the guitar is increasing in value.

I don't know about the additional history of the guitar except to say that I believe (from the research that I did) that Wes Montgomery played Gibson guitars.

Here is a link to a discussion of the guitar by owners: Guild X 500

Guild F-30 up close

Hello,

I have here a Guild F-30 SB, from 1974. I recently purchased it and it seems it's not from the year I thought it was (according to the serial number). It's a 1974 model. I just want to check that what I paid (from a guitar store) is a fair amount, bearing in mind it's from a different year now. As you can see from the photo, it is in good playing condition but with some cosmetic/playing wear, particularly around the scratch plate. There are no cracks/fret wear and it is structurally sound.

I'd be grateful if you could let me know the the blue book info, please and if, to your knowledge, guitars like this might cost more in the UK than the US.

Guild D250 1974

Excellent condition, cherry finish, likely 1974 per serial number

ANSWER

I can find no record of a D-250 either in the Blue Book or on the internet. There is, however, a D 25 that was manufactured in 1974. Here is the description:

D-25 (NO. 350-0200)
- dreadnought style, solid spruce or mahogany top, arched laminated mahogany or flat solid mahogany back, solid mahogany sides, round soundhole, black bound body, three-stripe rosette, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, three-per-side chrome tuners, rosewood bridge with white black dot pins, tortoiseshell pickguard.

If this is your guitar, here is the pricing info:

1968-1978

Excellent $850 - 1,000
Average $600 - 700
