What Pickup were stock on the ES-175
by: Todped

I've acquired a 70's Ventura es-175 but it's stripped of all the electronics. I've got it all covered exept I can't figure out which pickup to use. P-90, Humbucker or Mini Humbucker. The hole in the body is rectangle with triangular ends.

by: smitty the music man

I live in kansas city kansas I was just given a ventura guitar it is great I own more guitars then I can count but when I start to count my gutars the first one I make sure that I have is my ventura guitar I play all kinds of guitars but there is something about this one the pickups and the slam bar is just great the adjustable bridge is just great I would not trade it for nothing when I get a guitar it becomes my family and this ventura fits in just great.
I was given this guitar by a great friend pappy
I love the guitar.

Ventura 175
by: Steve

Blue book values are bs really and based on the old whatever someone might pay for something logic. Blue Books mostly serve guitar dealers and often are priced on the low side. No one writing blue books has a good feel for the real quality of many vintage guitars like a Ventura 175. I was in the guitar business for over 10 years and specialized in archtop guitars and a good Ventura 175 copy of an early 60s Gibson 175 is an incredible musical instrument. It is right up there with a really good Ibanez lawsuit guitar and I would put the value more in line with an Ibanez lawsuit so I would put the value at more like $1000 to $1500. That does not mean someone will pay that quickly and it does not mean they won;t but my point is if you really know guitars and tone then blue books that would put a great 175 made in japan copy low just are not looking at the total picture and value cannot just be evaluated only on what someone might pay for something....it is kind of like putting value on a fine piece of art.......at some point you have great art by a true master and average art........same thing with guitars.....a great guitar is an achievment and the blue book is bullshit on one level.......a real guitar player and musician who was successful and picked up a great Ibanez lawsuit 175 or a Ventura and loved it would just have to have it and would buy it. Also the rarity comes into play......I have owned many vintage Gibson archtops including a Gibson 1962 ES 175 and having spent time with a Ventura 175 it is easily of the same quality. While it is not worth the same $6000 to $8000 that the Gibson is I would put the value much much higher then any blue book....................which does not have a good feel for some values it judges because it is not as easy to get info as compared to like info on selling a 62 Fender or Gibson. Just like the lawsuit Ibanez 175s the Vintage Ventura Archtops are very high quality made in Japan guitars and they would have their asses sued now days if they made the same guitar. I used to take lessons from Toni Rizza who was a sell known studio player of the same level as Tommy Tedesco and he often played a Ventura Electricc Archtop out live and he was a rich man
and made tons of bucks doing thousands of sessions in the la studio scene for tv, film etc.
Just like a Picasso.........the Ventura ES 175 copy is a giant in the field of guitars and nothing to take lightly.
