Teisco Crescendo

by Joe Guerin
(Bluffton, SC)

I have what I believe is a 1966 Teisco Crescendo Hollow body Teardrop guitar. I have only found one other like it on a English guitar website. I would like to find out some info on it and of course, if it worth anything. Thanks.

ANSWER

Hi, Joe--

Cool guitar--thanks for the pic!

Teisco guitar models are not listed separately in the Blue Book. In fact, regarding pricing, there is only this:

"Pricing on Teisco Del Rey models and other Teiscos remains a bit strange. Most models that hang on walls are tagged at $99 (and sometimes lower), but clean cool shaped models sometimes command the $200 to $300 range."

I did find a guitar like yours in the guitar museum: Vintage Teisco Crescendo

It sold in 1977 for a little over $200.

That is about the extent of the information that I could find. Hope it helps!

Lynne

Blue one up for sale at EBay this week
by: LE Greene

I'm going to be listing a blue, 3 PU teardrop Teisco Crescendo on Ebay his week. It's a very cool smokey blue, all original -- what I think is a mid-60s era guitar.

It was a Christmas present when I was 12
by: Jerry

In 1965 I was given a Crescendo exactly like the one pictured except mine is blue with white trim. I loved the teardrop shape. Anyway, a few years later I sold it to buy a Jaquar Fender (which I later sold and could shoot myself for doing so). I have been telling a few friends about it for the past two years and how that I regret parting with it. I couldn't even remember who I had sold it to. Then after 40+ years I met the person that I sold it to (an old friend), and he told me that his brother still had it and he could get it back for me. I am picking it up tomorrow :). My Mom is still living but can't remember where they bought it. She said they may have ordered it from somewhere. I am excited to get my first guitar back after all these years. An old friend is coming home :) If you would like to contact me about it, my e-mail is kuontumkid@yahoo.com. Thanks.

I had one
by: Chuck B

back in the 70s - it was the main guitar I learned on. I spent more time with that guitar in my hands than I did any schoolbook. I shimmed the neck up right at the heel at an angle and got the most incredible action of any of my friends. It sounded horrible and I couldn't get any reasonable volume without it shrieking like a harpy, but it played like a dream.

Crescendo Teardrop Guitar
by: Russ

I bought a black teardrop shaped guitar just like that new in 1969 at a department store called Uncle Bills in Willowick, Ohio. It cost $50. It was very good quality. The headstock shape was a Fender clone and not the shape on your guitar. I sold the darn thing for $35 in 1976! It said Crescendo on the headstock and nothing else. Inside was a paper that said it was made in Italy.

Teisco
by: Joe

That's a start. Alan at projectguitarparts.co.uk told me that a green Crescendo sold near him in England for 500 english pounds ($800) earler this year! I have a good feeling. I found mine at a farmers market in Rolla, Missouri.
