S.S.Stewart Guitars

When were s.s.stewart guitars discontinued?

ANSWER

Hi Mathew--

Here is what the Blue Book says about SS Stewart guitars:

"Instruments previously produced in Philadelphia, PA, during the late 1800s.
S.S. Stewart was a major banjo producer of the late 1800s, and was one of the first to apply mass production techniques to instrument building with good consequences. Stewart became partners with well-known guitar builder George Bauer, and issued guitars under the Stewart & Bauer trademark from Philadelphia.
After the company was dissolved, Stewart´s family put out guitars under the S.S. Stewart´s Sons trademark. The Stewart name also appears on a series of entry level to medium grade guitars built by Harmony (circa 1950s); and others for Weymann. These later models are not at the same level of quality as the Philadelphia-era models."

by: blair

Hi everyone,
I'm looking at an older SS Stewart guitar. It is a model #2008. I can't find any info on this particular model. Wondering if anyone out there can give me approximate date of production and value so I could make an offer.
Appreciate your help,
Blair

Antique SS Stewart Guitar
by: MacQ

I have an antique SS Stewart guitar Circa 1890 - 1910. This guitar was made before the company sold out to Gibson/Harmony. It is a beautiful hand made instrument with S sound holes. The number stamped inside the body is 3624H1 422.
