Snare Drums--Is Metal or Wood Best?

I am looking to buy a new snare drum. Could you tell me the difference or which is better or more popular wood or metal.

ANSWER

Hi, Ed--

The choice of a wood or metal snare drum is purely a matter of taste.

The metal snare drums have a higher pitch and usually more volume. Wood tens to have a more mellow and rounded tone.
