Silvertone "Christmas Special" or "Christmas Edition"

by Rich
(Atlanta GA. )

Hi! I have what I've researched to find out is an early 60's Silvertone "Christmas Special" Can't read the Serial number because it's faded/smeared..
It's got the shorter neck,it's brown with very small gold "dust" metal flake in the finish. It's VERY CLEAN!.. and plays well, though the action could probably use some attention (it's a bit high)
I would send a pic, but apparently my file size is too large, and I'm not much on going through what it takes to re-size my file. If you need to see a photo, I could try when I've stored up a bit more patience..

Sooo, any idea what this guitar is worth??
PLease let me know!

Thanks!

ANSWER

Hi, Rich--

I think I found it. Here is the Blue Book General info:

1480 Add to Collection
- single cutaway, U-series body with 13.25 in. lower bout width, Masonite semi-solid construction, clear or white pickguard, bolt-on neck, 18-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, metal trapezoidal bridge with rosewood stick saddle, dark brown or natural Coke-bottle shaped peghead, 3-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, single coil lipstick tube pickup mounted centrally between neck joint and bridge, volume/tone control, available in Brown with metallic accents finish, mfg. 1958 only.

****Additional info:

These models were only available through the Sears Christmas catalog. Although they were no longer listed in the Christmas Catalog after 1960, the existence of post-1960 models indicates that they were still being manufactured and sold at Sears stores through at least 1961, probably to use up existing stock.

The pricing info:

Mint $375
Exc.+ $325
Exc. $260
Avg.+ $220
Avg. $180
General $150

Best Wishes,
Lynne
