Sigma DM3 and Martin D-15

My grandfather was very passionate about playing guitars. He left me numerous guitars when he passed on recently. I am keeping my favorites but wanted to sell the others.I have a Sigma Guitar from the Martin Co. Model number DM3 serial number is SK84671 This number was inside the neck of the guitar, 618087.

Also i have a GH MArtin and Co. D-15 Mahogany Top Dreadnought serial number 647697. I would like to know the value for both. They are both in excellent conditions, with the original cases.

ANSWER

Hi, Louise--

The Year on the Martin comes up as 1947. There was no D-15 model made by Martin. The only D series made in 1947 was the D-18.

Here is the general info:

D-18
- dreadnought body style, solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides, round soundhole with three-stripe purfling/rosette, five-ply top binding, one-ply back binding with rosewood (1932-36), tortoise (1936-1966), or black (1966-present) outer layer, 12/19-fret (1932-34) or 14/20-fret (1934-present), ebony fingerboard (1932-1947) or rosewood fingerboard (1947-present) with pearl dot inlays, three-per-side chrome tuners, ebony bridge (1932-1947) or rosewood bridge (1947-present) with black white dot pins, tortoise (1936-1966) or black (1966-present) pickguard, available in Natural or Sunburst (optional) finish, 25.4 in. scale, mfg. 1932-present.

If this is your guitar, here is the Pricing info for 1947:

1947-1949
Excellent $8,000 - 10,000
Average $5,500 - 6,500

----

The Sigma Guitar:

The Blue Book does not list the DM3 S. The DM2 and DM 4 are listed, but the DM3 is not. The other two models are priced between $135 AND $275. The unfortunate thing is that Sigma guitars are not really considered collectibles like the Martins.

Best Wishes,
Lynne

D-15
by: Anonymous

If you look on martin web site under history yo can date your martin. A martin with the serial #647697 was made in 1997. I have a D-15 made in 2000. Great guitar. Plane looking but it is a good sounding martin, nothing like a D-28, but I don't have 3k for a guitar. What other guitars did you get from your grandfather?
