Sigma Acoustic DM2

by Richard Pincus
(Cumming, GA)

Can you please tell me the history and current values of this guitar, also is this guitar considered a full size guitar?
Thanks

ANSWER

Hi, Richard--
In 1970, the Martin Guitar Company expanded its product line by introducing the Sigma line. The instruments begin their assembly in Japan, and then are shipped in to Pennsylvania where the Martin company can oversee the final finishing and setup. Sigma guitars are great introductory models to the classic Martin design. However, they have not appeared on a consistent basis from Martin (even though they advertise Sigma guitars have been produced since 1970).
Here is the Blue Book info:

DM-2
- dreadnought style, spruce top, round soundhole, tortoiseshell pickguard, 3-stripe bound body/rosette, mahogany back/sides/neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, rosewood bridge with black white dot pins, 3-per-side chrome tuners, available in Natural finish, disc. 1994.

Excellent $140 - 170
Average $90 - 110

Lynne

sigma dm2
by: Omar

I bought my sigma DM2 brand new in Visalia Cal. back in 1993...paid $450.00. Went with the intent to pay the price for a Martin, so I walked into this room where they kept the Martins separate from the rest and started going down the line looking for just the right sound. Played several guitars till I came across the sound that did it for me.. Much to my surprise It wasn't a Martin at all but the Sigma DM2, a guitar made in Korea. Still own it to this day. A great guitar for picking bluegrass and country music rhythm.
Martin is a fine name in guitars to be sure, but the sound and action of the DM2 Korean made Sigma was and has been enough for me..
