Should I Learn Guitar Major Scales Before Learning Modal Scales?

dear lynne,
is it possible that i start practice other scales rather than major and minor ones?i still have not captutred the major sclaes, and the concept of scales is still obscure to me, so isnt it easy to learn the phrygian and other scales after becoming familiar with the major ones for me as a beginner?
