I don't know too much about guitars and I want to sell my Yamaha FG-450S, but I am not sure how much i should ask.
The serial number is almost rubbed off and I can not tell what it says to find out when it was made. The tag says made in Taiwan Republic of China.
Should I take it to someone to check it out? If so, who?
I've been trying to find out anything I can on yamaha FG-450S guitars with no luck. All I found out was pawn shops and guitar center rips you off.
I put it on craigslist for $200.00 and someone called me right after I posted it, now I'm thinking I priced it too low and maybe I don't now what I have.
Any advice will help.
Thank you.
ANSWERHi, Kaiser--
Let me see if I can clear things up a bit for you. Yamaha made many FG Models. It has been my experience that the Blue Book has one price and GF owners tend to scream "UNFAIR"!
These guitars are quite valued by their owners and not so much valued by collectors.
I can give you the general info:
FG450S
- dreadnought-style body, solid spruce top, ovangkol back and sides, scalloped bracing, round soundhole with a multi-ring abalone rosette, multi-ply body binding, nato neck, 14/20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl diamond inlays, bound headstock with rosewood overlay and logo/leaf design inlay, three-per-side chrome tuners, rosewood bridge, black pickguard, available in Natural finish, mfg. 1989-1994.
This is the Blue Book pricing info:
Excellent $200 - 250
Average $120 - 150
That said, I will tell you that anytime I post a Blue Book price for these guitars there are dozens of owners telling me that the Blue Book is crazy.
So--while the Blue Book agrees with your selling price, you might try to bargain a little and find out just how much it is worth to a potential buyer.
After all is said and done, the value of ANY guitar is just what a buyer will pay for it.
Best Wishes,
Lynne
