Samick Artist Series

by Ronald
(Fleetwood, Pa. U.S.A.)

Just wondering what year it was made, there is no serial number, and no model number on the guitar. But by the headstock I am suggesting it is from 1994 when they discontinued this series. Any info and price would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER

Hi, Ronald--

Difficult to say with no serial number or model. Does this sound right?:

DS-100
- offset double cutaway hardwood body, bolt-on maple neck, 25.5 in. scale, 21-fret maple fingerboard with black dot inlay, standard tremolo, 6-on-a-side tuners, chrome hardware, white pickguard, 3 single coil pickups, volume/2 tone controls, 5-position switch, available in Black, Metallic Red, Sunburst, or White finishes, mfg. 1994-98.

If so, here are the prices:

Mint $170
Exc.+ $145
Exc. $125
Avg.+ $100
Avg. $85
General $65

I can't stand when others steal an instrument just so they don't have to buy one. I am in Pa. so no place near you. I wish you the best of luck in finding it and bringing the slime down that took it from you.

Thanks guys for all the help, you all have given. I have given this guitar to a friend shortly after I picked it up. I had swapped him for his Ibanez RX20 which is a pretty decent guitar as well. I have also purchased a 1988 Jackson San Dimas strat style guitar for $200.00, come to only see one like it which was in Japan. The one in Japan had a starting bid of $1,300.00 on ebay, but I never watched it to see what it would sell for. My collection just seems to get better with time.

2000 Samick Catalog
by: timhoeflich@yahoo.com

The link below is a good general reference. It is a Samick cataloge for 2000. If any of you have Samick catalogs or brochures from the '90s, please let me know.

You are correct

I stand corrected. I thought the headstock had the Samick VACPS logo on it.

Artist Series
by: SweetGary

Hi Ronald. Your Guitar is for sure an Artist Series. They are a series of their own with a number of different configerations. Strat type, Les Paul type, etc. I've even seen an Artist Series banjo on E-Bay. My notes say they were made between early 80's and about 1995, but I can't remember where I got that information. The Valley Arts Custom Pro Shop model is a different series, probably a little higher end and built between 1996 and 1998 or so. Both of these series have a very nicely finished neck. That's about all I know at this time, but I'll keep my eye on this blog. Good luck, SweetGary

I have studied the Samick VACPS guitars for nearly three years. The guitar in this photo is a Samick "parts" or "put-together" guitar. The neck is obviously a VACPS solid-maple with walnut skunk stripe standard, which appeared in a range of different body styles, most commonly on the SSM and SMX models. Though these body styles were "strat-like", their curves were more pronounced. The body in this photo is the traditional strat shape appearing on the LS series.

Hello Ronald, I have no more information on your guitar other than to say I have one just like it (same color combo). I bought another yesterday off e-bay. It's brown where yours is red, also has the black swirls and the white pickguard. I haven't received this new one yet but I can say that I think they are a high quality guitar and very much under rated. Thanks, Gary

I also pulled the neck off of it last night hoping to find something. All I found was the number 658 on the neck and the body itself, would that mean anything?
