Samick Artist Series Telecaster

by Paul
(Norfolk UK)

I bought this new about 1993/4 for about £250. I was just in the local music shop when the Samick Rep came in with his catalogues and a couple of guitars to show the manager. I was in the shop to buy a new guitar as my old Westone Thunder 1t was showing signs of over use and I always got a good trade in deal at the store.

Any how the shop guitar tech got hold of this one and plugged it in to see what they were like and WOW!!! I was sold immediately. I asked how much and the Samick guy said it wasn't really a sale model. He told me the reps got given a few guitars to tout business with and that he would try to get me one.

That wasn't good enough for me so I badgered him for a price ...cash on the spot.. in the end he said £270 and i said £250 and you have a deal. I walked out with it .. :-)

However I have no idea of the model and can't seem to find any info online that represents this particular guitar.
Quilted top over Ash. Maple neck 21 fret. Twin humbuckers, 1 volume 1 tone. A three way switch and a coil cut on on mini switch which cuts the innermost coil of both pick-ups. Floating 2 point bridge with through bridge pivot screws. All gold hardware and an awesome sound. This is a blues mans guitar. Serial reads.5072083 on the neck plate.
Anyone know anything about it?
Regards.
Paul.

ANSWER

Hi, Paul--

This model is the closest, I think. The other "tele" models have white or pearl dot inlay on the fretboard. The 22 frets match, as does the date and the finish.

STM-1
- ash body, 22-fret maple fingerboard with black dot inlay, Gotoh locking tuners, available in Natural finish, mfg. 1994-96.

Here is the Blue Book pricing info:

Mint $200
Exc.+ $160
Exc. $130
Avg.+ $110
Avg. $90
General $70
