Original OrMat OR200 John McVie Bass Rig
This was John McVie's rig from the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac days and also used in 70s Fleetwood Mac.
Bought in a "Fleetwood Mac Garage Sale" in the late 80s in the Los Angeles area at the band's storage facility.
They were bought with "Fleetwood Mac" stenciled road cases but the previous owner stored the cases in his parents' garage and they tossed them out, needing the space. The guy still did have a smaller Fleetwood Mac stenciled SUNN cab that helped confirm the lineage.
These cabs are all original and still have the Celestion GR15C's in them. The guy I got them from stated that there were four of these cabs being sold and he took the two cleaner ones. I don't believe there was ever a modle of these offered by Orange Matamp and that they were the first bass cabs they made, specifically for Fleetwood Mac.
Dimensions of the cab are 40x30x12 inches) with all the correct early OrMat appointments.) The badges on these are in center of cabs, for stacking four cabs 2x2 horizontally. When McVie only had two cabs, the tags had been at top RH corner for vertcal 1x2.
OR200 head also is original and correct.
ANSWERHi, Jon--
This model is, predictably, not listed in the Blue Book. Here is some general info:
"The Matamp trademark was established in the mid-1960s.
Mat Mathias moved to England from Germany during World War II and started working with electronics. Mathias started his own company and earned the nickname "The Radio Doctor" because he could fix just about anything to do with electronics. In 1958, he opened a recording studio when almost all musicians were using Vox amplifiers. Mathias began looking for an alternative sound and he began experimenting with his own circuits. The first Matamp Series 2000 was produced in 1963. In the late 1960s, Mathias partnered up with Clifford Cooper who owned the Orange Music Shop and they began to distribute Matamps in southern England. These amps were initially covered in black, but later models were covered in a bright orange vinyl. These were the first Orange amplifiers (see Orange). Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac was one of the first users of Matamps and Mathias toured with the band on their first U.S. tour. By 1973, the partnership between Mathias and Cooper dissolved and Mathias went back to building amps under the Matamp brand." (From the Blue Book)
