Oahu Student Model & Amp

The image represented is the same as the guitar and amp that I have. My great aunt purchased the guitar, amp and lessons in the 30s or early 40s. The guitar and amp both work.

What would be the estimated value? And is it best to sell on Ebay or through another venue?

Thank you,

Clarence

ANSWER

Hi, Clarence--

Here is the Blue Book general info about Oahu guitars:

"nstruments previously built by Kay, from the 1930s to the 1960s, however the Oahu trademark was used all the way up into the 1980s. Previously distributed by the Oahu Publishing Company of Cleveland, OH.
The Oahu Publishing Company offered Hawaiian- and Spanish-style acoustic guitars, lap steels, sheet music, and a wide range of accessories during the Hawaiian music craze of pre-war America. Catalogs stress the fact that the company is a major music distributor, but the instruments were really built by the Kay Musical company. They produced a number of Hawaiian style guitars in the 1930s and 1940s, primarily. In the late 1930s, Oahu developed a line of lap steel guitars and amplifiers."

The Blue Book does not provide specific prices for these guitars. After researching the internet, I found that it is likely going to sell for around $600.

You could list on an Ebay, or you could try our new May Music Studio Guitar Classifieds.

Best Wishes,
Lynne
