National Archtop Acoustic

by Jeff Smedbron
(Arkdale USA)

Fancy National Archtop

Fancy National Archtop

Can you tell me the approximate year, current value and anything else about my old National Guitar and case. The neck is straight with nice low action and is in very good condition.Guitar is overal much better than average but for the tuner plastic knobs have mostly deteriorated away. Has varnish crazing but few scratches It has a chrome metal pick guard. I think the case is original to it.
The neck number is V26719 and the number in the body is 3567-20. The body wood is not laminate and is 17 x 21 in. Is this a part Gibson unit? Any other info about it will be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER

Hi, Jeff--

This is a tough one. A very pretty guitar. I think the body may be "Harmony" built. The metal pick guard is puzzling. I think you need to contact a specialist in vintage nationals.

Here is a link to the "Elderly Instruments" evaluation page.

Good Luck!--sorry I could not be of more help.

I have that same guitar to, Mine is from 1956 i think. A really nice guitar and beautiful to! It's a gibson body and a National neck i think. Bought mine for 850$, not to sure though since i'm not from the US. But i think that number is fairly correct.

Hi! This babe would be a 1950 model according to the serial number(V25000-V35000=1950).Some models seemed to be associated with Gibson(acoustic bodies only)like model 1155 and so.I have a 1948 sort of similar model to yours and i 'm still serching for infos. The rarety probably makes them more valuable vs Harmony's or Silvertone's.Regards!
Pierre
