Maton Fretless Jb-IV Bass

by Gordon
(San Jose, CA, USA)

1972 Maton Fretless Jb-IV

1972 Maton Fretless Jb-IV

This is an early model (1972 I believe) Maton Fretless Jb-IV, which has a Rosewood fretboard, with serial number 196.
Original case, excellent condition.

ANSWER

Hi, Gordon--

This model is not listed in the Blue Book. In fact, there are no individual listings for Maton guitars.

Neck Problem
by: Greg Tschernez

Never had that and I have owned a few of these.

What you should do is get it to a really good tech. In brisbane I use Simon Faux and get him/her to dress the fingerboard. The problem you had would be more likely an uneven fingerboard then a neck issue.

WATCH THE NECK
by: kevmo

I had one a few years ago, loved it but had major problems with the neck. Spent heaps of cash to get it straightened. You need to check out the high notes on the fretboard to check it playability

Im a maton collector
by: Greg Tschernez

I have owned 3 of these basses i only have one JB4 fretless in my collection now.

Your bass would have been made in around 82 not 72 as the jb4's were actually released in the late 70's
