My guitar is a 1996 Martin.It is a JC40 Serial# 578958
Registration Date11/07/96.The Serial# is inside the soundhole & under the neck. It was owned by one person before me.It was given to me after he passed away.It has the original tweed case.

J-40
- jumbo body style, solid spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, round soundhole with three-ring (5/9/5 grouping, 1985-1995) or Style 45 abalone pearl rosette (1996-present), eight-ply top binding, four-ply back binding with white outer layer, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret bound ebony fingerboard with reduced abalone pearl hexagon inlays, unbound headstock with rosewood overlay and regular logo (1985-1995) or bound headstock with rosewood overlay and select abalone pearl Martin block logo, three-per-side gold tuners, ebony bridge, white bridge pins with abalone pearl dots, black pickguard (1985-1995) or tortoise pickguard (1996-present), available in Natural or Sunburst (optional) polished gloss finish, 25.4 in. scale, mfg. 1985-present.

JC40:

similar to the J-40(M), except has single rounded cutaway, an oval soundhole, and a low-profile adj. neck, mfg. 1987-1996.
