Martin Guitar N-20 1969

by Henry
(Mandeville, LA USA)

Can you please give me the approximate value of this guitar?

My grandfather purchased this guitar in 1969 at Werlein's in New Orleans. He died a few months later and I have had the guitar in a case since his death. It is in excellent condition.

I have a party interested in purchasing this guitar and I would like to know a fair price.

ANSWER

Hi, Henry--

The serial number indicates an early 1969 manufacture date. Here is the Blue Book general info:

N-20
- classical-style body, spruce top, Brazilian rosewood (1968-69) or Indian rosewood (1969-1995) back and sides, fan bracing, round soundhole with decorative wooden rosette, five-ply wood top binding with outer black layer, three-ply wood back binding with outer black layer, W/B/W back stripe, 12/18-fret unbound ebony fingerboard with no inlays, slotted headstock with decal logo, three-per-side open-style tuners with pearloid buttons, rosewood tied bridge, Natural finish, 25.4 in. scale (1968-1970) or 26.44 in. scale (1970-1995), total production of 1,101 instruments (277 in 25.4 in. scale and 824 in 26.44 in. scale), available as a special order, mfg. 1968-1995.

The pricing info:

1968-1969 Brazilian Rosewood

Excellent $3,000 - 3,750
Average $1,800 - 2,200

Hi Henry,

Are you still looking to sell the N-20 or did you already sell it? I am in the market for one of my own, not a dealer, etc.

Martin N-20 classical guitar 1969 and below...
by: Enlightened

Dear Henry
I had one and they are worth more than book
value, please hold on to it... I found out where mine
ended up yesterday at a guitar show from some that owned
after I did. I was shocked...it ends up mine was either a serial
number below or above Willie Nelson's N-20 "trigger" and it
It is Brazilian rosewood... 1969 and before are.
Make sure you humidify it in winter. Don't store
It on outside wall or damp area or cold temp. I use only
Violin polish. Just beware of low offers...and professional
appraisers that turn around and offer to buy it.
I am very disturbed with how I was treated and
that information was withheld from me concerning
my N-20...and will tell you to be careful...I have always
been honest and been harshly criticized for it, called
stupid and a fool and "all the money you could have made
,but that's ok I know that I did the right thing....I would
hope that's what I would receive the same treatment.

made honest judgement.

wanted Martin 0018c guitar
by: Anonymous

Dear Resonatepeck,

Are you the one who has a Martin 0018c that you want to sell. Is it the 1974 model? what kind of shape is it in? Does it have a hardshell case? Is it the original case? Are you the original and only owner? I am chaplain Palliative Care ( Hospice) at Saint Josephs Hospital in Tampa Florida. I am looking for a Martin 0018c nylon string guitar to play some beautiful meditation and reflection music at the bedside of our terminally ill patients. How much do you want for it? Would you please help me?
Respectfully,
chaplain George Francis
