Martin 1973 D28S model

by jon gergeceff
(st louis mo)

Due to the recession I may have to sell my priced guitar.I looked at the values online and spoke with a vintage guy in Georgia and Nashville, I bought my guitar used in 1977, it did get a small crack in it due to poor airport handling upon my return from performing in the U.K in 1980, the airlines paid for the repair at a very reputable repair shop in Dallas Tx. the bill was around 500.bucks at the time..It plays well with no problems whatsoever but I know that this repair effects the resale price..there is no extra bracing inside and the repair can hardly be seen but I don't want to misrepresent myself..do you know how much lower that would drop the price..other than that its in great shape...maybe 7or8/10 scale..I thank you and hopefully it wont come to my having to sell it..forever grateful

ANSWER

Hi, Jon--

Here are the Blue Book values:

1969-1979 Indian Rosewood
Excellent $2,000 - 2,500
Average $1,300 - 1,600

Without actually seeing the guitar, it is difficult to be exact, but maybe you could try somewhere in the area between $1600 and $2000. It looks like there is some buckle damage to the back. There would be nothing wrong with using a bit of scratch remover of you can find one that matches the color.

I hope that you don't have to sell your guitar, but if you do, try giving the highest price and then saying that you are coming down to whatever price you decide on because of the repair. People appreciate honesty and like getting a "deal".

Best Wishes,
Lynne
