Levin double neck guitar mandolin

by Paul Berger
(Pennsylvania)

Levin multi-neck

Levin multi-neck

The guitar does not have the original bridge on the guitar side, I plan on having that restored to the original pyramid type I believe we have the tailpiece for the mandolin but not the bridge. There are several cracks in the top that are in the process of being repaired. The serial number is 244 on top of the guitar neck headstock. (year 1901) there is no case. The instrument has the original finish, keys, tortois shell guard..Any help you can give me with the value would be appreciated.

ANSWER

Hi, Paul--

Thanks for the pic! The Blue Book does not list values for Levin guitars.

I found this site where there is a picture of your guitar and also one of your guitar being played.
My thought is that you might want to use the contact page on that site to get further information.

Here is the link:

Made in Sweden
by: Magnus

I would say since it has a serial number dating it to 1901, it is definately made in Gothenburg.

I believe the NY made versions were labeled "Benary guitars", the shop Herman Carlsson Levin ran in NY was in partnership with a Robert Benary.

Levin Guitar Mandolin
by: Anonymous

Hi Paul,

This model was designed by Herman Levin from New York. The production took place in New York as well. But after July 1900, Herman Levin returned to Sweden, where he was born, and started a guitar factory in Gothenburg. The production of this model continued in Sweden. If you see the word GÖTEBORG in the soundhole of the guitar, you can be sure that this instrument was made in Sweden. Is it possible to send me more detailed pictures?
Wouter
