CAN YOU TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GUITAR AND ITS VALUE?
WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL

ANSWER

Hello, Ruth--

Your guitar is a "EKO" guitar, manufactured in the mid to late 1960's. Most EKO models in average original condition are priced in the $150-$350 price range, depending on condition, originality, and overall appeal.

One distinguishing characteristic of EKO guitars is that they have no brand name on the headstock.
The "D" stands for "Dreadnought"--the body style of your guitar.

There are some people who say that these KD-28 guitars were manufactured by the "Kay" guitar company. This, however cannot be correct, as the Kay company never manufacture guitars in Italy.

Best Wishes,
Lynne

KD 28

I bought one yesterday for $40. It has a label inside that reads: Kay Model no. KD28 Made in Korea. There is a round, maybe oval, gold sticker with a black circle that doesn't go out to the border, but just inside. Inside the black circle is written Kay, and just before the word Kay is a very large K, all in black.

Eko/Kay KD28

Check out
http://www.kayvintagereissue.com/pdf/1973catalog.pdf
and look up the dreadnoughts. The KD28 was made in Italy for the Kay company and is very similar to the Eko, but not the same. It is not as heavy as an Eko, has a trapezoid neck plate not rectangular and there is one less point on the pickguard close to yhe bridge. BP

I have one of these plus several Eko guitars. This is a guitar made by Eko in Italy for the Kay guitar company. It is a myth to say Eko guitars are unbranded. They all have the word Eko on the headstock. The only ones that don't are the ones made by Eko for other companies such as Kay or Rose Morris, branded as "Shaftesbury".

EKO or K?
by: Cool Col

Just bought a battered one of these from local car boot for £5!

Its an EKO. A kay would not have the good quality adjustable bridge that this one has. I also have an EKO Ranger 12 with the same type. Hope to sell it on ebay soon for about £20 - £30?

I bought one of these myself way back in 1981 (and it's still going strong (-ish). I always thought it was a Kay - that was certainly how it was labeled by the shop I bought it from.

KAY

Its a Kay guitar. I have one myself - its a myth that they are unnamed EKOs - but they do have lots of similarities and were made well into the 1980s.
