Kay K-115
by Heather
(Indiana)
I have this guitar that has the letter "K" on the top of the neck, on the back is a label that says "Steel Reinforced Neck" "Made in Korea". On the inside of the guitar is a label which reads Model No K 115. This was given to my MIL around 1976.
ANSWER
Hi, Heather--
The Kay guitars have undergone many changes in ownership. In 1970, the rights to the Kay name were acquired by Sol Weindling and Barry Hornstein, who were importing Teisco Del Rey (Kawai) guitars to the U.S. market with their W.M.I. importing company. W.M.I. begins putting the Kay name on the Teisco products beginning in 1973, and continued on through the 1970s. The Kay trademark is now on entry level/beginner guitars built in Asia.
These guitars were entry level guitars of not high quality. They command prices ranging from $99 to $150.
