Jackson model number 3210

by Ronald
(Fleetwood, Pa, United States)

Ok I couldn't post a photo Lynne on my other post so here it is. The headstock on this is not at all reversed.

ANSWER

Hi, Ronald--

Thanks for the pic. I have done considerable research and unfortunately cannot find this guitar.

The model number that you provided is not listed in the Blue Book. I even thought that maybe is was a serial number, but it does not have the proper format for Jackson serial number.

I even thought that maybe it was a Charvel, since there is a kind of muddy line between the two trademarks for a certain period of time.

If the number were interpreted as a Charvel serial number, it would be a 1984 San Dimas model.

In short--I just don't know. Maybe a reader can provide more information.

A mystery it is, yet as I get disturbed by not knowing what I have, I really am having a blast researching this one. I thought the Samick Artist Series was going to be hard at the time. But this one tops anything I have looked for by far. I will keep doing my research as well, and will update you with anything I find out. Again thank you so much for your time Lynne.

Also Lynne I forgot to post in my other reply. I called Jackson yesterday, their records only go as far back as 2002. The serial number I gave you is only 4 digits correct. So I did some research on the number as well on jcfonline.com They are who Jackson recommended me to. Seems the 4 digit serial number is the actual number. They use 4 when it's a custom shop piece, if it's a normal product then it will be 6 or what have you. Also I think the biggest part that might be throwing us off is, that most of these had 1 nob for volume with the 1 humbucker. Mine has 1 volume and 1 tone, which I do not think is suppose to be there :) But I will continue researching as long as you help me. That way if someone else has the same problem, then maybe our post will help them as well. Again I thank you for your time, you do an awesome job Lynne.

Thank you for the great research, I have done some as well. The guitar was built 3/17/88 done by Rick Jones, which would put it in the Ontario production line. But still part of the San Dimas line. By telling you that, would you be able to give me a rough estimate of value?

Regards
Ronald

ANSWER

Hi, Ronald--

Additional info:

"In 1988, Charvel sent a crew of luthiers to Japan for a year or so to crosstrain the Japanese builders on building methods for custom-built guitars. The resulting custom instruments had a retail list price between $1,000 and $1,300. U.S. custom-built guitars have a four-digit serial number the Japanese custom-built models have a six-digit serial number."

I will keep looking--The Blue Book does not list any San Dimas models made that early. You definitely have a mystery guitar!
