J B Player Professional Series Strat

by Scott
(Syracuse, NY USA)

I am considering a complete rebuild of this guitar (paint, new pick-ups etc) and wanted to get a general idea of it's value before I started to rip and destroy things.
It's a mid to late eighties J B Player Professional Series Strat. It has 3 Select by EMG single coil pick-ups, locking nut and tremolo. The tremolo has no brand name on it, however, it does have tuners and rollers and is strung from the back of the tremolo, not through the back of the guitar. It has a bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fretboard. It's pearl white with single layer black pick guard. The tuners are sealed but again have no brand name on them. This is a virtual twin to my Fender Strat.
All parts are original and in perfect working order. There are some dings in the body, after all, it has sat in the back of my closet for about 15 years. The neck is in like-new condition and is as straight as an arrow. There is no case.

ANSWER

Hi Scott--

This is the only thing I could find that came close--Is this your guitar?

PG-111-B3
- offset double cutaway hardwood body, black pickguard, bolt-on maple neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, double locking vibrato, 6-on-a-side tuners, black hardware, 3 single coil pickups, volume/2 tone controls, 5-position switch. Available in Black Pearl, Red Pearl, or White Pearl finishes, mfg. 1994-96.

The problem is, it was not made until 1994. The models before that date, however, do not match the details of your guitar.

If it helps, all of the Professional Series guitars are about the same value in the Blue Book:

$300 $250 $210 $170 $130 $90

Hope this helps!

Lynne

The red with black binding tele jb player
by: Splitshift413@comcast.net

I unfortunately sold that exact guitar when I was kid. I traded it for a bc rich warlock. I have been looking for one on eBay and the net for years now. If you ever think you want to sell it please hit me up at this email address!

definitely above average

I have a couple JB Players. One is a red tele with black binding, bolt on neck, 22 frets.

The other is a red set neck strat. Feels like a Fender, sustains like a Les Paul.

They both have double locking tremoloes. You can position the whammy on either side of the strings, which I've never seen on any other guitar. They also have headstocks that resemble their Fender counterparts. These play surprisingly well.

Thanks
by: Scott

Hi Lynne,
Thanks for the quick response!!
Man, That really sounds like my guitar, However, I know it was made in the mid to late 80's because I traded my NJ Series BC Rich Mockingbird for it in 1987.
Thanks for the help.
I guess I'll go ahead and "soup it up"!!
