Ibanez Artist

by Gordon
(San Jose, CA, USA)

1977 Ibanez Artist

1977 Ibanez Artist

This is what I believe is a 1977 Artist, probably made not long before they had to stop making them in 1978.
It is in excellent condition, and has the original case.
Serial number is J804710.

ANSWER

Hi, Gordon--

The serial number search came back as:

"Your guitar was made at the Terada Plant, Japan
1980 Production Number: 4710"

The Blue Book lists no Artist series guitars before 1997.

Do you have a model number?

Love my Ibanez
by: Adam

Learned guitar on a 1980 model, since then played a plethora of other models and none have ever match this model. Its a shame they aren't worth much yet, but even if they were, i don't think i would ever sell such a great instrument.

miss my ibanez
by: zeromb

I owned/used the exact model of this guitar from 89-94, on the road and in every other capacity. I just wanted to agree with a comment made on that page. This guitar is better than any les Paul copy ever made. Tone, sustain, and overall playabiliy are unmatched by any les Paul made since. I PUT THIS GUITAR THROUGH THE WORST ABUSE POSSIBLE,and it always came back on tune, ready for more...even the rosewood seemed better than those in recent memory..email me if u got one to sell..spaceboymbsp@yahoo.com

Ibanez Artist
by: Jerry

The J in the serial number represents the month of production. J is the 10th letter therefore it was manufactured in October, the next 2 numbers is the year and the following four represents the guitars place in the quantity. 1487 would mean the 1,487th guitar made in october of 1980 and so fourth. Black is the least desirable color among collectors. In very good condition you could expect anywhere from $450.00-$550.00. Charcoal burst gets 500.00-650.00 Sunburst commands the most 1000.00+ The model you have is the least desirable color of the least desirable model. It has the straight bridge. Collectors like the ornate features of the other Artist models.

Pity
by: Gordon

That is a shame that they under value the instrument.
It is a fantastic 110% copy of a Les Paul, with the weight, sound, and playability as good as if not better than a LP.
I saw several other postings and ratings that indicate similar reviews by other owners.

Anyhow, thanks for looking....I'll post more if I ever find more re- the value.

and more

I found a site called IbanezCollectors, where the AR50 was discussed at length, and it is clear that my AR50 must have been made in 1980...not '77 as I had initially thought, which means it must have been almost brand new when I got it...

Model no.
by: Anonymous

Thanks, Lynne.
I believe it is an AR50 model, with the following specs:
Body Mahogany
Top Carved Maple
Neck Birch 3ply
Machine Head Velvetune
Pickups Super 70 no covers
Controls 2 volume,2 tone,3 way toggle
Bridge Gibraltar
Tailpiece Quik Change
Hardware Chrome

Gordon--

Still no Blue Book info except for this:

"The 1980s models are less collectible at this point and are asking between $500-$650."
