How to compose lead and metal riffs on guitar?

I just want to know how do we compose different metal riffs for new songs? Is there any formula or something. How to compose guitar lead for new songs especially metal songs?

Riffs and lead solos for any type of music are based on scales.

The best thing you can do for your riff and solo playing is to practice various scales in an organized fashion. Then you can combine the notes of the scales in different ways to make your riffs and leads.
