How can I get the guitar sound on "Freebird"?
by Adam
Hi, I'm planning on performing the free bird solo at my upcoming school talent show and I was wondering if you could recommend a specific amp which is good for getting loud hammer ons and that can create a sound similar to the original song. Thanks.
ANSWER
Gary Rossington used a Gibson SG with stock pickups on the slide solos for Free Bird. He also put a nail under the strings near the nut to raise the action and tuned the "B" string down to "G". He used a glass Coricidin bottle for a slide.
His amp was Peavey Mace heads and Cabs ,no effects just guitar and amp. He set the Bridge pickup volume to 5 or 6 for rhythym, and left the neck pickup volume at full for leads.
