Guitar Chord--F Major

by TORKY
(AUSTRALIA)

I am a beginner and find it very hard to get a clean sound with the f chord. I practice a lot--no success yet. Any suggestions?

Hi, Torky--

The difficulty comes from trying to hold down the 1st and 2nd strings on the first fret with one finger--right?

Try this:

Practice playing ONLY the 1st and 2nd strings. Flatten your first finger across these two strings on the first fret and practice until you get a good sound.

You may have to increase the pressure on the strings. You can do this by keeping your thumb BEHIND the neck and "squeezing" with your thumb and first finger.

Next add the 2nd finger and practice ONLY those 3 strings until the sound is clean.

THEN add your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 4th string (F) and a clean sound will come with practice.

Hope this helps!

Lynne
