Gretsch Hollowbody 1960's
by Steve

This a Gretsch hollowbody electric (2 "F" holes), single cutaway, sunburst, Grover tuning pegs. The cord is inserted/ embedded in body - cannot remove. Hardtail. All original parts. Silberburst pickguard. One pick-up, one volume/ one tone knob. Original case. Works fine, but has a crack/ dent in rear body (lower corner) and needs TLC. Serial # stamped inside - L 1708 8980. My uncle has had this since the early 1960's. Can you tell me a Blue Book range. Thank you.
ANSWER
Hi, Steve--
This was a difficult one to trace. The serial number you provided does not match the Gretsch serial number format. There are many hollowbody models.
I went with the hollow body and one pickup config. and the year and came up with this model:
ANNIVERSARY MODEL 6124/6125
- single round cutaway semi-hollow maple body, arched top, bound body, f-holes, raised white pickguard with logo, mahogany neck, 21-fret ebony fingerboard with pearloid thumbnail inlay, blackface peghead with logo inlay, peghead mounted nameplate with engraved diamond, three-per-side tuners, roller bridge/G logo trapeze tailpiece, covered pickup, volume control on cutaway bout, three-position tone switch, chrome hardware, available in Sunburst (Model 6124), Two-Tone Green (Model 6125), or Two-Tone Tan (Model 6125) finish, 16 in. body width, 2.5 in. body depth, 24.5 in. scale, mfg. 1958-1972.
Here is the pricing info:
1961-1964
Mint $1,950
Exc.+ $1,550
Exc. $1,250
Avg.+ $1,000
Avg. $850
General $700
**Not sure what you meant about the cord being embedded. Also, the Grover tuners are not original, which will diminish the value. This guitar probably fits the avg. or general category.
