Grammer G58-m

by brent
(nashville, tn)

I just acquired a greenburst finish grammer in fine shape. model is G58-m hand written on label. Serial #4628. thanks for your help.

ANSWER

Hi, Brent--

These instruments were previously built in Nashville, TN circa early 1960s until 1971.
RG & G was founded in the Spring of 1965 in Nashville, Tennessee, by Grand Ole Opry performer Billy Grammer. The company was very active in the Nashville area, and many local performers used these acoustic guitars during the 1960s. The factory burned down in April, 1968 and was rebuilt in June, 1968. RG & G was reformed as Grammer Guitars in the fall of 1968.
The Grammer Guitar company was later sold to Ampeg (circa unknown, late 1960s), and the later models have an Ampeg "A" logo on the front of the headstock below the Grammer name. Grammer went out of business in 1971; the company's assets (but not the trademark name) were sold at a bankruptcy auction the same year.

Here is the Blue Book pricing info:

Excellent $1,550 - 1,800
Average $950 - 1,100

Grammer S-30
by: Kirk

I recently purchase a near mint S-30 Grammer which is a little smaller than the full sized D
On the neck block in pencil is written April '71
and she has a 1 7/8 nut believe it or not. I guess a special order.
Approx. how much is she worth?
Were many of these S-30 made?

Thanks, Kirk

Grammer G 10 Serial 5218
by: Gary

I bought this guitar probably around 1967. I actually choose this over a Martin D-series guitar because I liked the neck and action over the Martin. THe sound was about the same but it's all solid Rosewood and as I said the action was much easier to play.

I look at Martin's from the same time selling for big bucks and thats about the only time I wish I had a Martin as old...but I'll take the Grammer guitar anytime over the Martin for playing....

I consider mine priceless and worth at least the same if not more than a Martin....

G-58
by: Bluesgod47

I have had a Grammer that I bought new in Portland Maine from New England Music, in the winter of 69/70. I have beat it bad over the years and it still gives up a beautiful ringing sound with a wonderful deep bass. It has the narrow neck and is pre Ampeg. It is very rare to see these Guitars and I was happy to find this site about them.

Grammer Greenburst
by: Greg's Guitars

The History of the greenburst would be skeptical at best, as the last serial number would have been 199X for these guitars, sounds like a parts guitar or a refin , an definitely an Ampeg version as indicated by the presence of a model number, so it can not be a "real " Grammer green burst, Greg.

Grammer history
by: gregsguitars

Good reply, but the Grammer guitar factory was never sold to Ampeg, Ampeg infused money for Billy Grammer to continue growing his guitar company while allowing him to also continue studio and session work as a guitarist.
